New Opportunities for Emergency Physicians to Improve Outcomes in Acute Coronary Syndromes

Target Audience

This activity is designed for emergency physicians.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Summarize the methods of risk assessment, including risk-stratification models, to be applied in a patient presenting to the emergency department with chest pain in order to triage the patient appropriately
  • Describe the role of reperfusion, percutaneous coronary interventions, and medical management in the risk-directed treatment of a patient with acute coronary syndrome (ACS)
  • Summarize the recent clinical trial results regarding the safety and effectiveness of anticoagulants in the ACS patient
  • Put into practice updated guidelines to ensure effective outcomes in ACS management
