Guidelines and HEDIS® Measures for COPD: Strategies to Optimize Clinical and Economic Outcomes

Target Audience

This activity is designed for medical directors, pharmacy directors, nurses, case managers, formulary directors, consultant pharmacists, and other managed markets decision makers from managed care organizations, pharmacy benefit managers, Medicare, hospitals, large employers, VA/DOD, and other managed markets segments.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define the prevalence and clinical and economic burden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) among the US adult population
  • Compare and contrast characteristics of COPD and asthma and the potential impact on disease management decisions
  • Summarize the GOLD and ATS/ERS guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of COPD
  • Outline the current HEDIS® measure for COPD diagnosis and the 2008 measure on COPD management
  • Incorporate the latest evidence and guidelines to overcome barriers to adherence to HEDIS® measures and improve COPD outcomes

The Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) is a tool used by more than 90 percent of America's health plans to measure performance on important dimensions of care and service.

HEDIS® is a registered trademark of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)

Credit Eligibility

To be eligible for documentation of credit, participants must participate in the full educational activity, complete the 10-question post-test with a score of 70% or better, and complete the online evaluation form. Participants who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form online may immediately print their documentation of credit.

Participants who have successfully completed the live version of this activity are not eligible to receive credit for this enduring material.

Any participant wanting to file a grievance with respect to any aspect of a continuing pharmacy education activity sponsored or cosponsored by Princeton CME may contact the Assistant Director of Continuing Education in writing. The Assistant Director of Continuing Education will review the grievance and respond within 30 days of receiving the written statement.
